Values Wine Picks September 12, 2013

Note: I publish batches of reviews that I call Good Values Wine Picks. These are from the regular section of the liquor store rather than the Vintages section, and tend to be lower priced and the most widely available of all wines. The last four reviews I did were: November 15, October 16, August 3 and June 18.

White Wine

Noble Ridge Vineyard & Winery Noble Ridge Pinot Grigio 2012, Okanagan Valley, BC VQA, Canada: Crisp, clean and refreshing with notes of lime and white grapefruit. Medium-bodied. Works as an aperitif or companion to fresh seafood. Pair with: antipasta, foie gras, onion tart, quiche lorraine, pasta with creamy sauces, sockeye salmon. Drink: 2013-2015. 590298 13.20% XD 750 mL  $18.90 Score: 87/100. September 12, 2013 Full Review Add to: Shopping List Cellar

Red Wine

Ch√Ęteau Ducru-Beaucaillou Meritage 2005, Saint-Julien, Bordeaux, France: This is a towering wine that still needs cellar time. Very tight and tannic, but it will open up into a blockbuster, especially given the spectacular 2005 vintage. Only 10,000 cases were produce of this traditional blend of 67% Cabernet Sauvignon and 33% Merlot. In the past, the winery produced about 20,000 cases of this wine. It offers classic aromas of blackcurrant, blackberry, cassis, licorice and graphite. All the elements are here of a benchmark wine from Bordeaux. Drink: 2018-2035. 505172 13% XD 750 mL  $315.00 Score: 98/100. September 12, 2013 Gorgeous Gift Wine Full Review Add to: Shopping List Cellar
