Values Wine Picks January 3, 2012

Note: I publish batches of reviews that I call Good Values Wine Picks. These are from the regular section of the liquor store rather than the Vintages section, and tend to be lower priced and the most widely available of all wines. The last four reviews I did were: November 15, October 16, August 3 and June 18.

White Wine

Obikwa Sauvignon Blanc 2011, Western Cape, South Africa: Dependably delicious year after year at a that-must-be-a-typo price. Refreshingly herbal and grassy with a spike of lime lighting up the middle. Terrific. Pair with: fish, salads, light poultry dishes. Drink: 2011-2013. 527465 12.50% D 750 mL  $8.95 Score: 88/100. Red Wine

Kressmann Selection Merlot 2010, France, France: A smooth, medium- to full-bodied red with red berry notes. Pleasant. Drink: 2010-2012. 243378 12.50% D 750 mL  $8.45 Score: 83/100. January 3, 2012 Full Review Add to: Shopping List Cellar
