Values Wine Picks January 3, 2012

Note: I publish batches of reviews that I call Good Values Wine Picks. These are from the regular section of the liquor store rather than the Vintages section, and tend to be lower priced and the most widely available of all wines. The last four reviews I did were: May 14, November 15, October 16 and August 3.

White Wine

Cloudy Bay Vineyards Ltd Sauvignon Blanc 2010, Marlborough, New Zealand: Zesty, herbal with notes of chives, lemongrass and lime zest. This is the wine that put New Zealand on the map. Love how it's far more citrus than herbal. Mouth-watering and medium-bodied but packed with flavour. Drink: 2010-2014. 304469 13.50% XD 750 mL  $29.95 Score: 92/100. Red Wine

Chateau De Gourgazaud 2009, Languedoc, Roussilon, France: Stunning for this price point! Reminds me of classic Bordeaux: woodsmoke, cassis and leather with some black pepper on the nose. Full-bodied and smooth. Layers of terrific flavour. This wine is a blend of syrah and mouvedre grapes. Drink: 2010-2015. 22384 13.50% XD 750 mL  $12.55 Score: 89/100.
