Values Wine Picks January 3, 2012

Note: I publish batches of reviews that I call Good Values Wine Picks. These are from the regular section of the liquor store rather than the Vintages section, and tend to be lower priced and the most widely available of all wines. The last four reviews I did were: November 15, October 16, August 3 and June 18.

White Wine

Tawse Winery Inc. Estate Chardonnay 2009, VQA Niagara Peninsula, Ontario, Canada: This is the winery's first time making this particular chardonnay. The fruit was sourced from the estate's Quarry Road, Robyn's Bench, David's Block and Hillside vineyards. It's both organic and biodynamically farmed. This rich layers of toasty oak and vanilla spice come from barrel fermentation followed by 12 months of aging in French oak (20% of which was new). There is terrific minerality and depth in this wine; it's full-bodided but heavy with great complexity and hedonistic satisfaction. Pair with: vegetarian dishes, pasta with cream sauces, and white meats would be great choices. Try cedar plank salmon or roasted pork tenderloin to experience the versatility of this wine. Drink: 2011-2015. 670459000847 13% XD 750 mL  $34.95 Score: 91/100. January 3, 2012 Full Review Add to: Shopping List Cellar
