Values Wine Picks January 3, 2013

Note: I publish batches of reviews that I call Good Values Wine Picks. These are from the regular section of the liquor store rather than the Vintages section, and tend to be lower priced and the most widely available of all wines. The last four reviews I did were: November 15, October 16, August 3 and June 18.

White Wine

Monkey Bay Sauvignon Blanc 2011, Marlborough, New Zealand: Crisp and refreshing with grassy, herbal notes and a clean white grapefruit and lime finish. Excellent for seafood and salads. Nice price. Pair with: chicken or seafood dishes. Drink: 2013-2016. 620062 11.50% XD 750 mL  $13.95 Score: 88/100. January 3, 2013 Splendid Salad Wine Full Review Add to: Shopping List Cellar

Red Wine

Baron Philippe De Rothschild Cabernet Sauvignon 2011, Languedoc-Rousillon, France: Robust with smoky black fruit notes and some mocha from the oak aging. Medium- to full-bodied, and nicely balanced. This wine benefits from decanting 1-2 hours. This is a terrific wine for this price point. Great for hearty meat dishes. Pair with: rare steak, brisket. Drink: 2012-2015. 407551 13% XD 750 mL  $10.95 Score: 87/100. January 3, 2013 Full Review Add to: Shopping List Cellar
