Values Wine Picks January 3, 2013

Note: I publish batches of reviews that I call Good Values Wine Picks. These are from the regular section of the liquor store rather than the Vintages section, and tend to be lower priced and the most widely available of all wines. The last four reviews I did were: November 15, October 16, August 3 and June 18.



White Wine

Baron Philippe De Rothschild Chardonnay 2010, Languedoc-Roussillon, France: Great price for this crisp, clean chardonnay with aromas of refreshing green apple and lime. Medium-bodied. This works as an aperitif or companion to seafood and salads. Pair with: pasta in a light cream sauce, poultry or seafood. Drink: 2011-2014. 407528 13% XD 750 mL  $10.95 Score: 86/100. Red Wine

Gabbiano Castle Vineyard Chianti 2011, Tuscany, Italy: Full-bodied and smooth with dark red fruit and smoke. Good acidity for food. Pair with: pastas with mushroom sauce, aromatized white meat, roast lamb, or half-mature cheese.. Drink: 2012-2015. 78006 12.50% XD 750 mL  $13.95 Score: 86/100.
