Values Wine Picks March 5, 2014

Note: I publish batches of reviews that I call Good Values Wine Picks. These are from the regular section of the liquor store rather than the Vintages section, and tend to be lower priced and the most widely available of all wines. The last four reviews I did were: November 15, October 16, August 3 and June 18.

White Wine

Sandbanks Gewürztraminer 2011, Prince Edward County, Ontario V.Q.A., Canada: Soft and fragrant with lovely aromas of rose petal, lychee and pear. The acidity is not aggressive yet this is loaded with flavour for mild curries and spicy dishes. Great effort. Drink: 2012-2015. 346882 12.50% MD 750 mL  $16.95 Score: 87/100. Red Wine

Château De Vaugelas Le Prieuré Carignan Syrah Grenache Mourvèdre 2011, A.C., Corbieres, Midi, France: Rustic, rugged and full-bodied with blackened fruit, toasty, tarry oak and smoke. Tasty in a full-belted kind of way. Decant for 1-2 hours. You can't beat the price for this quality. Pair with: grilled lamb, roast beef, meaty stews. Drink: 2014-2017. 361691 13.50% XD 750 mL  $12.95 Score: 87/100. March 5, 2014 Best Beef Wine Full Review Add to: Shopping List Cellar
