Values Wine Picks April 22, 2011

Note: I publish batches of reviews that I call Good Values Wine Picks. These are from the regular section of the liquor store rather than the Vintages section, and tend to be lower priced and the most widely available of all wines. The last four reviews I did were: November 15, October 16, August 3 and June 18.

White Wine

Shingleback Wine Haycutters Sauvignon Blanc Semillon 2009, McLaren Vale Adelaide Hills, Australia: Lovely lemongrass and sunshine dappled limes waft up from the glass. There's also some fragrant melon. Mouth-watering juiciness from the Sauvignon Blanc is balanced by the richness from Semillon. Top me up! Pair with: seafood, salads, quiche, vegetarian dishes. Drink: 2009-2013. 207365 12% D 750 mL  $17.95 Score: 89/100. April 22, 2011 Scrumptious Seafood Wine Full Review Add to: Shopping List Cellar

Red Wine

Château Lecusse Cuvée Spéciale 2008, Southwest, France: This wine the Gold Medal at the 2010 Concours Général Agricole in Paris. It's made from Fer Servadou (aka Braucol) grapes which native to southwestern France. This wine is loaded with ripe blackberries and fleshy dark plums with some dark spices on the finish. The fruit and concentration in this wine lean toward a Nw World style. Terrific, especially for the price. 198937 13.50% XD 750 mL  $14.95 Score: 88/100.
