Values Wine Picks March 7, 2013

Note: I publish batches of reviews that I call Good Values Wine Picks. These are from the regular section of the liquor store rather than the Vintages section, and tend to be lower priced and the most widely available of all wines. The last four reviews I did were: November 15, October 16, August 3 and June 18.



White Wine

Bluenose Wines Dry Creek Valley Chardonnay 2010, Sonoma County, California, United States: Full-bodied with lots of oak, butter and green apple notes on the nose and palate. Good balance with nice acidity for food. Some hazelnut and toasted almond through the mid-palate. Good smoky finish. Pair with: salmon or chicken with cream, mustard sauce, tarragon flavoured seafood. Drink: 2013-2016. 1017175 SKU NS 14.40% XD 750 mL  $24.17 Score: 88/100. Red Wine

Quails' Gate Estate Winery Stewart Family Reserve Pinot Noir 2011, VQA BC, Okanagan Valley, BC, Canada: Such a lovely wine ... one for sighing over rather than describing. Medium-bodied, velvet smooth with racy black cherries that roll and caress over your tongue. Perfect for planked salmon or seafood, as well as lamb. Pair with: sautéed pioppino mushrooms, mustard & pistachio crusted roast lamb. Drink: 2014-2018. 639658 14% XD 750 mL  $44.99 Score: 93/100.
