Values Wine Picks April 22, 2008

Note: I publish batches of reviews that I call Good Values Wine Picks. These are from the regular section of the liquor store rather than the Vintages section, and tend to be lower priced and the most widely available of all wines. The last four reviews I did were: November 15, October 16, August 3 and June 18.

White Wine

Strewn Semi-Dry Riesling V.Q.A. 2005, Niagara, Canada: A lovely, light summer sipper. Aromas of ripe melon and pear. Pair with: fish, seafood, salads, pork, chicken. 616599 12% D 750 mL  $10.95 Score: 87/100. April 22, 2008 Full Review Add to: Shopping List Cellar

Red Wine

Beringer Vineyards Beringer Knights Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2005, California, United States: Located 17 miles northwest of the winery, this vineyard has volcanic, well-drained soils. The Knights Valley designation was first used on a Beringer label in 1974. By 1983, this area had won official recognition as a premier wine growing region in the form of its own American Viticulture Area designation. The wines were then aged in small French Nevers oak barrels for sixteen months. A paragon of balance, elegance and New World vitality. Lovely aromas of toasty oak, black pepper and black plums. A long finish. Pair with: filet mignon, venison, roast beef, caribou. Drink: 2008-2015. 352583 13% D 750 mL  $39.95 Score: 92/100. April 22, 2008 Favorite Red Wine.
