Values Wine Picks September 11, 2013

Note: I publish batches of reviews that I call Good Values Wine Picks. These are from the regular section of the liquor store rather than the Vintages section, and tend to be lower priced and the most widely available of all wines. The last four reviews I did were: November 15, October 16, August 3 and June 18.

White Wine

Rolly Gassmann Riesling 2009, Alsace, France: Lovely freshness and balance in this beautifully constructed riesling! Very dry and mouth-watering with a medium body. Complex with aromas of lemon and dry honey. Long, satisfying finish. Drink: 2013-2017. 328898 13% D 750 mL  $20.95 Score: 91/100. Red Wine

Cakebread Cellars Dancing Bear Ranch Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Franc 2009, California, United States: Dark and brooding with aromas of dark chocolate and espresso-coffee from the generous oak aging. Full-bodied with fleshy black fruit. It would do well in the cellar. Decant for 2 hours when opening. Drink: 2013-2020. 220459 14.90% XD 750 mL  $155.95 Score: 93/100.
