White Wine

La Crema Chardonnay 2012, Sonoma Coast, California, United States: This is the convenient half bottle size of this chardonnay. Sonoma Coast vineyards enjoy a long, cool growing season due to the moderating influence of the Pacific Ocean, and its fogs and winds that blow inland. This is perfect for slowly ripening grapes to develop complex flavours and nuances without lots of sugar that translates to heavy alcohol. Classic Californian Chardonnay with toast, oak and green apple on the nose. Full-bodied, and generously layered. Generous flavours of pear and peach on the palate with a long, dry finish and a hint of wild white flowers in a spring rain. Perfect for roast chicken or mild curries. This wine is matured in both new and seasoned French and American oak for seven months which rounds out the package with a toasty finish. Pair with: pasta, roasted chicken, prawn bisque, lobster with mayonnaise, pork with a creamy lemon sauce. Drink: 2013-2016. 728352 13.90% D 375 mL  $15.95 Score: 91/100. Red Wine

Duckhorn Vineyards Decoy Cabernet Sauvignon 2011, Napa Valley, California, United States: Classic Californian cabernet: beautifully sculpted with enticing aromas of blackberry, blackcurrant and some dark spices. This is an extremely consistent producer year after year. Makes me want to hunt some ducks for dinner, or perhaps just order duck a l'orange at my local restaurant specializing in that dish. Some vanilla spice and smoke on the finish. This will cellar well. Pair with: slow-roasted beef, grilled-rare steaks, grilled chicken. Drink: 2013-2018. 186171 13.90% XD 750 mL  $29.95 Score: 92/100.
