Vintages Wine Picks June 7, 2008

White Wine

Gustav Adolf Schmitt Riesling Spätlese 2006, QmP, Niersteiner Auflangen, Estate Btld, Rheinhessen, Germany: Vintages Wine Panel: Gustav Adolph Schmidt is a centuries-old property that produces some of the most striking Rieslings to come out of the vineyards surrounding the town of Nierstein. This Spätlese features aromas of orange marmalade, peach compote and citrus. Medium in sweetness, it is leavened by a lovely seam of youthful acidity. My note: A classic German Riesling with lots of finesse and aromatic beauty. Pair with: spiced prawn dishes. Drink: 2008-2012. 71225 M 750 mL  $15.95 Score: 88/100.
