Vintages Wine Picks December 5, 2009

White Wine

Petaluma Hanlin Hill Riesling 2008, Clare Valley, South Australia, Australia: Searing line-petrol loveliness in a bottle! Don’t be afraid to try this very different style of wine and open up your world of hedonistic happiness. I love this for its difference, its zest and its embrace of life. 138537 12.50% D 750 mL  $21.95 Score: 89/100. December 5, 2009 Full Review Add to: Shopping List Cellar

Red Wine

Château L'hospitalet La Réserve Rouge, Gérard Bertrand Syrah Grenache Mourvèdre 2007, A.C., Coteaux du Languedoc, La Clape, Midi, France: Vintages Wine Panel: This wine is a multi-award winner, including a Gold Medal at the 2009 Decanter World Wine Awards. A blend of Syrah, Grenache and Mourvèdre, this powerful wine exhibits aromas of red and black berries, violets and vanilla. Tannins are present, but only to balance the fruit. My note: A generous black-fruited wonder with luscious, full-bodied notes of blackberries and dark spices. Peppered black raspberries play across your palate just before you lean forward and ask for another top up. Terrific! Pair with: Lamb Navarin (lamb stew). Drink: 2009-2013. 682492 13.50% D 750 mL  $19.95 Score: 90/100. December 5, 2009 Full Review Add to: Shopping List Cellar
