Values Wine Picks October 31, 2012

Note: I publish batches of reviews that I call Good Values Wine Picks. These are from the regular section of the liquor store rather than the Vintages section, and tend to be lower priced and the most widely available of all wines. The last four reviews I did were: November 15, October 16, August 3 and June 18.

White Wine

Tawse Winery Inc. Quarry Road Riesling 2011, VQA, Niagara Escarpment, Ontario, Canada: This organic and biodynamic wine is superb! The vines were grown on a limestone base and the wine shows an incredible mineral depth. Joyous aromas of lime and white peach leap from the glass. Mouth-watering and endlessly delicious. Food matches: salads, shrimp and oysters, creamy cheeses, and marinated vegetables. Also perfect for seafood dishes including lobster, shrimp, crab, and white fish. Pasta tossed with olive oil, fresh herbs, and grilled seafoods. Pair with: seafood platter, pan fried white fish, seafood salad, raw oysters, creamy cheeses. Drink: 2012-2015. 198853 10.50% XD 750 mL  $23.95 Score: 93/100. October 31, 2012 Outstanding Organic Wine Full Review Add to: Shopping List Cellar

Red Wine

Pasqua Villa Borghetti Passimento Rosso Regional Blended Red 2010, Veneto, Italy: A robust but smooth blend of the traditional grapes Corvina and Croatina. This red is amazing for the price point: rich dar red and black berries with a pleasant kick on the finish. Balanced and mouth-watering. Very food-friendly for hearty dishes and tomato sauce. Drink: 2012-2015. 141952 14% XD 750 mL  $11.95 Score: 87/100. October 31, 2012 Full Review Add to: Shopping List Cellar
