Note: I publish batches of reviews that I call Good Values Wine Picks. These are from the regular section of the liquor store rather than the Vintages section, and tend to be lower priced and the most widely available of all wines. The last four reviews I did were: March 7, January 4, December 16 and November 20.

Tasting note:

Gorgeous smoky flavours with coffee, blackberry and dark plum. Full-bodied, smooth and lip-smacking delicious! Food matches: rich foods, including fire-grilled meats and vegetables, pasta.

Production / Vinification Methods:   The  grapes  used  to  create  the  2008  Sebeka  Cabernet-Pinotage  were  grown  in  a  number  of  South  Africa’s  finest  vineyard  districts  located  across  the  Western  Cape.  The  cooler  districts  benefit  from  the  fog  created  by  the  cold  ocean  currents  coming  north  from  Antarctica,  as  well  as  the  vigorous  “Cape  Doctor”  cross  winds  coming  from  the  Atlantic  and  Indian  oceans.  The  warmer  districts  take  advantage  of  the  bright  South  Africa  sunshine  and  produce  grapes  with  deep,  rich  colors  and  ripe  fruit  flavors.  By  marrying  grapes  from  such  diverse  areas,  Andries  was  able  to  produce  a  finished wine of great character and complexity.     The grapes were picked at optimum ripeness, then destemmed & crushed into stainless steel for one  week  fermentation  on  skins  @  22-25ºC,  then  pressed  &  inoculated  with  MLF  bacteria.  Clarified  after  100 % completion of MLF. The final blend is made up of carefully selected tanks.     Analysis   Varietal Content: 65% Cabernet, 35% Pinotage  Titratability Acidicity: 0.57g/100ml  pH: 3.63  Alcohol Level: 13.9%  Residual Sugar: 0.4g/100ml    Tasting Notes   Our 2008 Sebeka Cabernet Pinotage brings together the dark fresh blackberry flavors of smooth and creamy Cabernet intensified by Pinotage’s intense red berry notes and complex structure.      Enjoy now or cellar for another 2 - 3 years.
