Tasting note:

Big, black and brooding with full-on toasty oak, that gives a delicious smoky weave throughout this wine. Fleshy dark fruit wrap around of core of dark spice hedonism. Decant 2 hours. Bring it on!

Opinions about wine differ greatly as the experience is subjective. You may find it helpful to compare this critical evaluation of the wine with mine as well as your own:
Ryan Hindmarsh rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review:

Modus is a super seductive blend of Sangiovese, Cabernet and Merlot. Like a greasy breakfast sandwich in the hands of an unshaven, hat wearing gangster. It smells like smokey jacket, dirty money and overcooked bacon. But it disappears in your mouth like “you’ve been hit by Smooth Criminal“. My Modus Operandi is steal as many of these off the shelf before you do.
Dan Trcka rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

The 2007 Ruffino Modus is has strong penicillin/corked notes upon opening that diminish after about half an hour of decanting and allowing the wine to be reasonably enjoyable. Once decanted, it is a medium bodied, integrated to aged wine, with intense aromas of black cherry, red currant, chocolate, leather, cedar/oak and vanilla. It has a nice structure, tannins that are refined to tannic and a long finish. Though made with aging in mind, I would not recommend aging it as more funky notes will emerge. My impression: NICE, 90 pts tasted once in December 2011 shortly after it was released, and again in June 2012 (didn't publish the review of the first bottle, as I thought it was corked). Bought 6 bottles, will return the remaining 4.

Samson Ling reviewed this wine as follows:

A balanced red with plum and hints of milk chocolate. Cocoa. Medium-to-full body, with silky tannins and a delicious finish. Balanced and delicious. Score - 92. (James Suckling, jamessuckling.com, Dec. 27, 2011)
This red is phenomenal on the nose, with blueberry, light coffee and sweet tobacco. The palate is full and utterly captivating, with its combination of fruit and very subtle, silky tannins. Goes on and on. Best after 2014. Score: 96 Source: James Suckling, jamessuckling.com
