Note: I publish batches of reviews that I call Good Values Wine Picks. These are from the regular section of the liquor store rather than the Vintages section, and tend to be lower priced and the most widely available of all wines. The last four reviews I did were: March 7, January 4, December 16 and November 20.

Tasting note:

A big, blockbuster wine yet lively and vibrant, not heavy. Voluptuous layers of fleshy dark cherries and blackberries. A wine to cuddle up to and hoard.

Opinions about wine differ greatly as the experience is subjective. You may find it helpful to compare this critical evaluation of the wine with mine as well as your own:
Take yourself back before Prohibition when blending produced the best wine in any year. Zinfandel for spice and ripe fruit flavors and suppleness; Carignane for bright freshness provided by high acidity; black pepper and tannins from Petite Sirah; and notes of blueberry and color density added by the Alicante Bouschet was found mixed in many of these old vineyards. These grapes were the chosen ones of California before 1920. The 2007 Icon contains only the best wines from our cellar made from grapes planted more than 90 years ago to produce California’s most interesting, unique, and classic blend. It is rich, round, full, and flavorful and will age beautifully for a very long time.
The wine is very dark and dense. It is fully aromatic with sweet fruit scents of black cherries and plums,
accented by hints of toast, vanilla, black pepper, cardamom, and licorice. It is a big, mouth-filling wine, rich in the
complexities of black raspberry and baking spices. It has supple, delicious intensity and weight in the long, flavorful finish. Built for the ages, this wine has classic Sonoma mixed black flavors. There is nothing else like
it in the world.
