Note: I publish batches of reviews that I call Good Values Wine Picks. These are from the regular section of the liquor store rather than the Vintages section, and tend to be lower priced and the most widely available of all wines. The last four reviews I did were: May 22, March 7, January 4 and December 16.

Tasting note:

A heavy-hitter Chardonnay firing on all sensual cylinders! Loaded with generous butter, oak, pear and pear notes. This wine was made using full barrel fermentation in French oak and then aged another 10 months in oak. Try it with lightly smoked sablefish with potato brandade or veal chop with sunchoke puree. Bring it on! Food matches: Yukon Arctic Char and Qualicum Scallops, with braised savoy cabbage “choucroute”, sunchoke puree and sautéed brocollini with citrus and mustard cream.

Opinions about wine differ greatly as the experience is subjective. You may find it helpful to compare this critical evaluation of the wine with mine as well as your own:
Our SFR Chardonnay was harvested in October 2009 from the best French clones in Quails’ Gate Estate vineyards. With vines averaging 13-17 years old, their roots extend deep into the clay and gravel soil adding minerality and complexity to the wine. Made from 100% estate grown French clone Chardonnay in a classic warm-climate season, allows for excellent balance and acidity. This wine was hand crafted using full barrel fermentation in French oak (40% new, 60% 1 year old). All barrels were warmed to complete the malolactic fermentation. These techniques enhance mid palate weight and texture, adding richness and
complexity. Time in the bottle will allow for seamless integration of this well balanced Chardonnay, which will cellar up to 5 years.

Serve this wine between 55-60 degrees Farenheit or 12-16 degrees Celsius. Tip: If your bottle is at room temperature, put it in ice water for about 30 minutes or in the fridge for about three hours to chill it.
