Tasting note:

Vintages Wine Panel: Established in 1702, Meerendal is not only one of the oldest continuously functioning wineries in South Africa, it is one of the oldest in the world. In 2007, Liza Goodwin became the second female winemaker in Meerendal’s history. The first? Maria Stans who took over for her husband when he died in 1712! My note: An intense, inky wine with concentrated aromas of black cherry, tobacco, cedar, mocha, black plum and cloves. Silky, smooth texture, much like Merlot, but with a full-bodied kick and a warm finish. Food matches: cotechino, ostrich, grilled lamb, prime rib, fajitas.
