Still a vibrant, dark ruby colour considering it is already five years old.
Good intensity of aromas such as blackberry, blueberry, black cherry, plum, violets, smoke, tobacco, black pepper, cloves, anise and baking spices.
This is a dry wine with high acid, medium body, medium+ tannin, medium+ alcohol, and flavours reminiscent of those found in the nose but also including coffee, rosehips and allspice. The finish was pleasant but didn't change a lot from my first impression.
This is a very good wine, which could hold in a cellar for another 3 to 4 years or be enjoyed now (preferably with meat/hard cheese to balance the still-firm tannins).
I enjoyed this wine with pork and beef ribs that were smoked and barbecued, then tossed in a sweet and spicy coffee BBQ sauce, with a side of mac and cheese (both the wine and the food benefited from eachother).

*This wine was not as lively when tasted the day after being opened*
