Note: I publish batches of reviews that I call Good Values Wine Picks. These are from the regular section of the liquor store rather than the Vintages section, and tend to be lower priced and the most widely available of all wines. The last four reviews I did were: March 7, January 4, December 16 and November 20.

Opinions about wine differ greatly as the experience is subjective. You may find it helpful to compare this critical evaluation of the wine with mine as well as your own:
GOLD MEDAL – Spiegelau International Wine Competition 2011

Delicious, Mosel styled Riesling. Ripe, juicy citrus fruits balanced by tangy acidity and a lower alcohol level combined with generous texture and weight, wrapped in moderate sweetness.

Season:
A very good season in Waipara. Consistent bud burst, no frost issues, great weather over flowering/fruit-set, enough rainfall, minimal disease pressure and no picking or timing issues at harvest. Ideal.

Vineyard:
The fruit for this wine was hand harvested in three separate passes from our Georges Road vineyard in Waipara. Vineyard soils are predominantly loam and gravel based. The vines are trained to a 2 cane VSP trellis with row spacing at 2.0m and vine spacing at 1.5m. A portion of the vines are at 1.0m. Clones are a mix of 239, 198 and 110 on Riparia Gloire and Schwarzmann rootstock. Each parcel of fruit was transported on the day of harvest to the winery for processing. Shoot and crop thinning are employed to ensure optimum fruit quality at relatively low cropping levels.

Winemaking:
Each parcel of fruit was loaded straight into the Press and gently whole bunch pressed. The resulting juice was settled briefly in tank before being racked to another tank where it underwent a natural fermentation. Fermentation temperature was kept cool to retain aromatic intensity but was turned off for latter ¼ of the ferment to encourage additional complexity. The fermentation was arrested when the wine was deemed to be in balance. The wine remained on gross lees to build additional texture before being filtered just prior to bottling.

Serve this wine between 55-60 degrees Farenheit or 12-16 degrees Celsius. Tip: If your bottle is at room temperature, put it in ice water for about 30 minutes or in the fridge for about three hours to chill it.
