Tasting note:

Smoky, toasty and loaded with brooding big black fruit. A mature wine with great depth and power. The fruit isn’t fleshy or ripe but it is there in balance with the more mature aromas of leather and tar.

Opinions about wine differ greatly as the experience is subjective. You may find it helpful to compare this critical evaluation of the wine with mine as well as your own:
Barolo today is the epitome of a modern terroir wine with wide international appeal, and Gemma’s Barolos reflect this. The Trophy winner, Biglin, is made by winemaker Giorgio Barbero, and comes from a three-hectare vineyard at Monforte d’Alba ... It is a wine which, as modern taste demands, drinks relatively young, but as the Riserva label demonstrates, preserves the ability to age splendidly.” (Decanter, Oct. 2010) Light, fragrant leather, tar and tobacco nose, and a succulent fruit with quality acidity that gives beautiful balance. Score: Regional Trophy. Source: James Pietersen, Platter's South African Wine Guide
