Domaine Du Penlois Juliénas Maxence Besson, Vign. Gamay 2006
Tasting note:
Vintages Wine Panel: This Beaujolais estate has been in current owner Maxence Besson’s family since 1922, and the importance of craftsmanship is evident in their classically styled wines. Springing from the AC of Juliénas (some say named for Julius Caesar), this vibrant, Gamay-based beauty is fresh, juicy and ripe with just a subtle suggestion of sweetness. It’s finely balanced, very approachable and easy to love. My note: Ripe cherry soft texture, raspberry and peonies in a field. A pretty wine that’s medium-bodied and generously good-natured. Makes a lovely aperitif. Food matches: tuna with rosemary, roast chicken, cold cuts.
