Aromas of flowered purple fruit, with milk chocolate. Fruit moving to ripe raspberry and black currant, developing brooding cassis note…really coming into its own. Has evolved since my last tasting. Can go a few more years. But wow, what a great wine. Similar to 2005 right bank Bordeaux. Om nom nom. $16. 90 pts. (ottawawinejournal.com)
The Grand Estates Merlot has to be considered one of the best – if not the best – budget Merlots in the world. The color is pure and deep, there is a strong tannic spine, and the flavours of cassis and coffee, boysenberry and chocolate could be coming from a much more expensive bottle.
