Note: I publish batches of reviews that I call Good Values Wine Picks. These are from the regular section of the liquor store rather than the Vintages section, and tend to be lower priced and the most widely available of all wines. The last four reviews I did were: January 3, July 6, May 8 and April 22.

Tasting note:

Subtle, not fruit forward. Lovely spicy-earthy notes with some bright cherries and brambly fruit on the middle palate and a supple, satin texture. Medium-bodied and balanced. Long, dry, refreshing finish. Food matches: mushrooms, pork liver pates, tuna, grilled salmon, roasted chicken, duck and other game birds.

Other Wine Reviews

• Harvest Date: September 24th-October 3rd, 2007
• Yields of 1 ½ Tonnes / acre and below (~25 hL/ha)
• Fermented in stainless steel then aged in French Oak, with 33% new.
• The biggest quality factor involved in making Pinot Noir is yield in the vineyard. No short cuts to quality exist. It is not that Pinot Noir must be big, but rather that good, ageworthy and interesting Pinot Noir comes at great cost in the vineyard. This variety, produced as we have made this wine, is a rare example of the future of Niagara wines – and it shows the difficult but worthwhile path that our terroir has chosen for us.

Complementary recipes:

Serve this wine between 60-65 degrees Farenheit or 15-18 degrees Celsius.

Reserve

The word reserve on a wine label should apply to a producer's highest quality wine from its best vineyards that has been set aside for special care in aging and storing. In some regions, this is the case, either voluntarily or by law. However, in other regions, the term reserve is not regulated and some wine producers label low-quality, mass-produced wines as such to sell them more easily. This is also the case with similar terms such as proprietor’s reserve, cellar selection, vintner’s blend and private reserve. The lack of legally-defined terms is one of the non-tariff barriers that North American wines face when exporting to Europe.
