There's a deep core of minerality here in this vibrant French white wine with a laser like focus and lime lift through the mid-palate. Pair with fresh seafood.

Riesling food pairings: planked salmon, shellfish.

Reviews and Ratings

Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

An exquisite Alsatian Riesling that showcases this region's fine Riesling tradition and reflects the schist soil where it is grown. A bright yellow colour, with aromas and flavours of delicate minerality, peach, citrus, pineapple and slight spice. Noticably bright acidity. Long aromatic finish with a touch of honey and salinity.

Try this wine and you'll see why I love Alsatian Rieslings!

Excellent paired with fish, shellfish, poultry or goat cheese.
Matt Steeves - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Michel Chapoutier uniquely described the racy acidity in this impressive Alsatian Riesling when he said this wine has 'acidity tighter than a G-string'...Never one to hold back, whether it be verbally or on his quest to produce world-class terroir focused wines all around the globe, the 2011 Schieferkopf Riesling from Alsace, France, is a beautiful example of that commitment to excellence. Mineral-laced, this bone dry, yet fruit rich wine seems to have inherited an impressive amount of minerality from the blue schist that's found in this 5 hectare vineyard. The nose shows sweet floral, honey suckle, bees wax, toasty notes, and the mouthfeel is refreshing with a medium-long honey, pineapple, and mineral finish. Given the refreshing acidity, this would be a terrific wine to enjoy with rich German cuisine, Charcuterie, and of course is fabulous on its own! Tasted November 2014. 91 points. Martha Kelly AIWS - CS rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Flawless and fresh, this Alsacien Riesling from M. Chapoutier has flavours of lime, crisp apple, honey, and delicate acacia blossom. The lively acidity refreshes while the medium body carries the classic flavours through on the long, mouth-watering finish.
Pair with rillette, spicy shrimp, or sip on its own.
Drink now or cellar until 2019.
Date tasted: November 2014.
Heather Wall - CS; WSET Advanced rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Shieferkopf may not be an easy word to pronounce but this Alsatian Riesling is definitely easy to sip. The word translated means 'schist', a reference to the blue schist found in the area. Michele Chapoutier has crafted an elegant and aromatic wine with just a hint of the familiar petrol notes attributed to this varietal. Citrus, cut apples, honeysuckle, honeycomb, vanilla with petrol making an appearance on the tail end of the nose and palate. Medium + acidity and bone dry. Long length on a creamy finish. Excellent for salty and fatty dishes. English Fish and Chips, Bratwurst on a bun. This Chapoutier Riesling is marking it's first entry into the Ontario market....first of many!
