Natalie's Score: 93/100

A rich, complex, full-bodied red wine blend of 51% Cabernet and 49% Shiraz grapes from one of Australia's best producers. Black cherry liqueur aromas and flavours on the nose and mid-palate. The grapes are grown in Wrattonbully, Barossa, McLaren Vale, Langhorne Creek and Robe regions. The wine was matured 12 months in American oak hogshead barrels, of which 40% were new. Penfold's Bin 389 is sometimes referred to fondly as "Baby Grange" as sells for a fraction of the winery's flagship Grange, but still demonstrates superb craftsmanship in the hands of chief winemaker Peter Gago and his team. Pair with grilled meats. Highly recommended.

Cabernet Shiraz food pairings: beef Carpaccio, roast beef, roast leg of lamb.

Reviews and Ratings

Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review:

Opaque dark garnet/ruby with delicious dark berries, vanilla and slight mint aromas. Juicy dark berries, spice and oak on a rich, full-bodied, smooth mouthfeel with good structure and elegant finish. A sumptuous Shiraz and a great gift gift wine.
Tasted Nov. 2016
Penfold's Bin 389 is sometimes referred to fondly as "Baby Grange" as sells for a fraction of the winery's flagship Grange, but just like its parents, it has a good wine pedigree. The Cabernet-Shiraz blend for Bin 389 came from several and very well-known South Australia wine districts: Barossa Valley, Coonawarra, Padthaway, Robe, McLaren Vale, Langhorne Creek and Clare Valley. The first vintage of Bin 389 was created in 1960. - Community Wine Reviews
