Vintages Wine Panel: The 2006 vintage of this wine appeared on the Wine Spectator’s 2009 Top 100. Since the 2007 vintage was equally good in Tuscany, expect similar praise for this yet-unreviewed version. This is a superb, food-friendly red that will work with a number of dishes. The tannic structure here will also allow the wine to age 3-5 years in a cellar, if you wish. My note: Smooth, full-bodied and a pleasant quaffer. Dark berries and dark chocolate notes. Great party wine.

Sangiovese Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon food pairings: roast lamb, mushroom risotto.

Reviews and Ratings

Andrew Bernardo rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Vanilla, milk chocolate, wood, red fruit, briars and cherry cream, and a touch of earth. Nice wine to drink now or until 2013. I'm 89 on this wine. (ottawawinejournal.com)
Gabriel Israel rated this wine as 87/100 with the following review:

A nice day-to-day wine. Nothing too special. Well priced. Simple. Balanced. Medium-full body. Food friendly. Mediterranean herbs. Dark fruit finish.
Reverse Wine Snob reviewed this wine as follows:

The 2007 Monte Antico Toscana IGT is another wine that got rave reviews for the previous vintage, but seems to have fallen off. We thought the wine was good but not great. It has a wonderful fruity floral aroma on the nose but is unable to live up to that standard the rest of the way. It has a nice berry flavor but a little too much oak combined with some harsh tannins. The finish is a bit of a letdown as well. Not bad for only $9 but you can probably do better.

Nice melo smooth but crisp on the palette, standard Italian, good with pasta and easy drinking
