Reviews and Ratings

Heather Wall - CS; WSET Advanced rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

This Chardonnay won Bronze at Decanter Asia Wine Awards 2013. It is a big Chardonnay fit for a King. Lots of wood and wood smoke initially on the nose. Let this wine open up a little and along come the apple, pear, honeydew melon, citrus, vanilla, white pepper. I would love to see how this wine tastes in a few years. At $20 it's worth the investment. Medium+ acidity helps cleanse the plush oiliness on the palate. Perfect for Christmas dinner turkey with stuffing, mashed potatoes with lots of butter.
Tasted: December 2014
The de Marisco family are descended from William de Marisco (AD 1100) who is said to be one of 35 illegitimate children of King Henry the First, thereby (apparently) making him the King's Bastard. This New Zealand Winery has been well recognized in wine competitions. The Chardonnay grapes for this white wine are grown in the cool climate of the Waihopai valley, in the western region of the Wairau Valley. Pair with pork tenderloin. - Community Wine Reviews
