Such a well-woven, integrated, finely crafted Spanish red wine. This full-bodied red wine is a blend of mostly Tempranillo, and small amounts of Mazuelo and Graciano grapes grown on 20- to 25-year-old vines. Complex with aromas of cigar box, leather, violets and black cherry. Full-bodied and mouth-watering. Love the taste and feel of maturity in this wine. Drinking well now though will also keep in the cellar for a few years. Pair with veal. A gorgeous garnet hue in the glass. Very mouth-filling and coating. Long, lingering finish. Pair with toasted nuts, hard cheeses and gentle conversation.

Food pairings: herbed steaks, Portobello mushroom, chilli, soup, lamb chops.

Reviews and Ratings

Andrew Bernardo rated this wine as 92/100 with the following review:

Truly stunning in quality and regional typicity, with the black cherry and prune notes giving way to cigar tobacco, animal hide, dried flowers and singed herbs. Rioja at its finest. 92 Points.
Lan Gran Reserva (2008) Rioja red is a full-bodied Spanish red wine blend of mostly Tempranillo, and small amounts of Mazuelo and Graciano grapes grown on 20- to 25-year-old vines. The wine is made by Lan, a winery established in 1972. The 2008 Gran Reserva has a developed nose of black tea, espresso and black cherry. Black cherry, tobacco and black olive fill the mid palate, matched by zesty acidity. Drink now or hold in cellar for another five years. - Community Wine Reviews
