Reviews and Ratings

Jane Staples - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

This Old Vine Reserve Chenin Blanc was hand-picked and sustainably farmed, using no herbicides or pesticides. It has a delicate fruity, slight floral nose with well-integrated oak on the palate. Medium fruity finish. Lovely with mild curries.
Alex & Priya - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

Priya: very pretty, warm golden tones. The tartness hits first in a pang in the jaws. I don't smell much - maybe some uncooked basmati rice - must be the Indian in me. It's strongly flavored and long tasting but I'm not convinced, so I do what I always do with white wine - I tried it with food. Indian food to be exact. And it works - somewhat. The fresh, crisp lemon flavor nicely suits the food! Why? Indians often drizzle lemon juice on their food to soften the spice. This wine works the same way, and the food even brings out a hint of sweetness in the wine. Final judgement - on its own its a no-go, with food it's a keeper. 90 pts

Alex: now there's a lesson! This is a finely knit, semi-tropical dry style coupled with plenty of citrus and acidic zest. Very fine oak usage, flavor depth and balance at a fair price that does South African chenin blanc well, as Ken Forrester usually does. 88 pts
This South African winery farms sustainably with no herbicides or pesticides. Grape leaves and bunches are thinned by hand and grapes are hand harvested. This wine finishes with dried apricot and vanilla smoke. Ken Forrester is known as a master of Chenin Blanc. The grapes for his Old Vine Reserve Chenin Blanc are grown on vines that average 37 years of age. This wine is barrel and tank-fermented then it lies its lees for 9 months to add more richness. - Community Wine Reviews
