Charred, almost roasted black fruit, with lots of smoky oak on the nose and palate of this full-bodied Australian red wine made from Shiraz grapes. Finishes with blackberry and cassis. Pair with grilled meats.

Reviews and Ratings

Matt Steeves - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

Chris Hancock, MW (Hon.) was the winemaker on this impressive Aussi Shiraz. Although one can't compare this to the six vintages of Penfolds Grange he has made in the past, it is a great effort. This medium-full style Shiraz exhibits layers of dark fruit, blackberries, bitter chocolate, and baking spices. Drinking great now and it will continue to for upwards of 7 years, but why wait!? Matt Steeves, Quercus Vino, January 2014

Re-tasted July 2015:

Remarkably intense nose showing dark fruit, plum, mocha, smoked meat, pepper, soy sauce, and tangy BBQ sauce. The palate is rich and focused. Loads of dark berries, chocolate, and smokey brisket, with great structure. A huge wine at a small price! An Aussie Shiraz from Australia's most famous Shiraz region, Barossa Valley, it's built to enjoy with BBQ fare, the smokier the better. Tangy ribs, gourmet burgers, smoked brisket, or smoked duck wings. Fantastic wine, terrific value. Tasted July 2015. 90 points. Matt Steeves - www.quercusvino.ca
Winemaker Chris Hancock has been making wine for three decades with Robert Oatley. His long-time friend and mentor, Bob Oatlay is a four-in-hand-driver, referring to four horses hitched to a cart that requires a steady hand but light touch.
