This fortified Spanish wine is dry, smoky and nutty: it's an acquired taste, but one well worth acquiring. This Sherry underwent oxidative aging under a layer of flor aestro (layer on top) that creates a bitter almond finish. The wine was aged in American oak casks.

Heather Wall - CS; WSET Advanced reviewed this wine as follows:

Definitely an acquired taste and quite honestly not one I personally have embraced. I can report what I saw and tasted and like all wines I'll let you decide from there. I'd love to hear from those that enjoy this fortified style.
Deep tawny colour with thick slow legs. Nose: nutty, almond oil, apricot, mushroom, toast. Bone dry palate with raw almond, orange zest, smoke. Oily texture. Long bitter almond finish. Definitely needs food. Perhaps something cloyingly sweet or salty. A box of salted caramels?
Tasted: January 2015

Many people pair it with soup at the beginning of the meal, or even put it in the soup. You can enjoy it with many cheeses, nuts and biscotti. - Community Wine Reviews
