Extraordinary value for the money in this southern Italian red wine. Syrah delivers a velvet mouth texture and lots of fleshy ripe dark plum flavours. Perfect for roast beef.

Reviews and Ratings

Mymi Thesingingsommelier - Sommelier, FWS rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

If you enjoy your Shiraz from Australia, you must try this Syrah from Sicily!
Cusumano was established in 2001 by 2 brothers who took over the winery from their father. They own 400 hectares of vineyards over 7 holdings in Sicily. Their philosophy? Focus on terroir, innovative technology (closure for this bottle is a glass cork!) and a passion for winemaking which totally translates in the this wine.
The wine is a dark crimson, almost opaque in the center and has inky legs.
The nose combines the ripest blackberries, dark fruitcake, black cardamom seeds, braised meat and wet forest floor.
The palate is sumptuous, intense, ample, dry with sticky tannins. It is spicy, earthy and smoky with a blackberry compote lingering aftertaste.
Superb!
I would consume this wine on its own because I love the weight of it but if you must pair it with food, it will stand up to very bold flavors! Think Greek Easter Feast with the roasted meats on the grill or a panoply of BBQ'd meats and veggies!
