Rustic and full-bodied with tart black fruit, smoke and tar. Needs a big piece of steak, but would be divine with it.

Meritage food pairings: grilled lamb chops and oven-roasted potatoes.

Grand Gold Medal winner at Concours Mondial Bruxelles 2011. Lovely gingerbread, plum, cherry and cedar aromas and flavours dominate in this pretty Merlot-based wine (with 15% Cabernet Sauvignon and 10% Cab Franc). Dry and fruity with moderate tannins giving the wine presence. There is a fine round centre leading to a clean, elegant, long finish. Cellar it 3-5 years, or try it tonight. Unquenchable by Natalie MacLean

Natalie MacLean is a new force in the wine writing world ‐ a feisty North American answer to Hugh Johnson and Jancis Robinson. She can write beautifully about wine.

The Financial Times of London

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
