Natalie's Score: 91/100

A many-layered, multi-faceted wine with great complexity and classic aromas of cassis, blackberry, blackcurrant, coffee and wood spice. Grapes were grown in vineyards that ranged from 940 meters above sea level to 1180 meters. Aged 18 months in new French oak. Full-bodied with great length; elegant and balanced. You'll find my feature story on Catena, and a visit with Nicolas Catena that was part of my second book, Unquenchable.

Cabernet Sauvignon food pairings: barbecued and grilled meats, game, chicken salad, pork tenderloin.

Reviews and Ratings

Monique Sosa - Accredited Sommelier rated this wine as 90/100 with the following review:

A smooth, easy going, medium bodied old vines red. A yummy balance of cherry, baking spice, and minerality. Finish is long, lush and mouthwatering with smooth integrated tannins. Tasted Jan 2017 - @sommsosa | bespoketastings.ca
From Bodegas Esmeralda in Argentina, the grapes for this Cabernet Sauvignon from Catena, Alta (2013) are from vineyards over 1000 metres above sea-level that take advantage of the cool nights (and warm days) to fully ripen the wine grapes. The wine is fresh blackberry, espresso and cake spice. The wine was then aged 18 months in new French oak. - Community Wine Reviews

There are very few people in the wine world who "get it" and Natalie is one of those who brings more fun to a buttoned-up and stodgy game.
