Natalie's Score: 87/100

A toasty, oaky, full-bodied red wine with big black fruit and juicy mouth-filling flavours that's bound to stand out in any comparison tasting. However, on its own it's wanting for a little more nuance. Nonetheless, it's a great don't-analyze-it-just-quaff-it kind of wine. Pair with hamburgers.

Reviews and Ratings

Mary Anne van Gaal rated this wine as 89/100 with the following review:

This deep red Chilean Carmenere had been aged in American and French oak barrels which contribute to its complexity. Aromas of cherry and chocolate abound. Flavours of black cherry, oak and tobacco linger on the palate. This would be great paired with grilled steak or dark chocolate.
Sean O'Regan - Certified Sommelier rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

Oct 23, 2014: Tasted blind at NCSG Vintage pre-release event.
Deep ruby/garnet, plummy, red and black berry, oak spice, chocolate, faint smoky green herb/pepper and an iron/mineral note. Medium bodied, with juicy acidity and soft drying tannins, the palate flavours repeat from the nose with a lengthy finish of the smoky herb and iron notes. Nice valued wine that should drink well for another four to five years. Try with green pepper steak.
Brent Gushowaty rated this wine as 88/100 with the following review:

Eye
Medium depth, mature cherry rim

Nose
Fresh, sweet cherries.Vanilla, rounded. Plums, plush - absence of significant oak. Entrancing

Palate
As on nose plush, rounded, sweet, plum and cherry, sweet vanilla, cinnamon. Very soft tannins. Medium minus acid. Soft, easy like a bigger Beaujolais in mouthfeel. Later some darker fruits & a touch of bramble. Carmenere is starting to get really interesting in Chile.

Value Rating: 90

Blackberry, and cherry, with a touch of green peppper in the aroma. Nice acidity with favours of black and tart cherry. Pair with pork roast.
Astrid Young - Sommelier ISG CAPS rated this wine as 85/100 with the following review:

vegetal at first, but with a pronounced aroma of creosote, and tar, which goes quite beyond the 'leather' descriptor. black and red fruits and more tar, smoke and hint of burnt rubber. Chewy and large, will appeal to those who have a taste for something on the bitter side: smokers, cigar smokers, wearers of too much cologne. This is your wine.
A chunky red wine that was aged for 14 months in American and French oak barrels. Lots of oak, vanilla, tobacco and spice. The Carmenere grapes for this red wine grow in the Chilean region of the Colchagua Valley. - Community Wine Reviews
