Medium-bodied; medium acidity; polishing tannins. Initial earthiness on the nose opening up to plum, cassis, anise, blackcurrant leaf, smoldering ashes, floral and spices.Repeated on the palate. Solid price performer at $18. Enjoyable. Perfect for Canadian comfort food such as hearty beef stew, chili, tortiere.
Tasted: January 2016
This is the winery's Black Label series. This full-bodied Australian Cabernet Sauvignon is made in the Mount Lofty ranges nestled in the Clare Valley known for blockbuster red wines. Lots of cassis, toasty oak, licorice and vanilla spice on the nose and palate. As one of the oldest wine regions in South Australia, the Clare Valley vineyards are planted at higher elevations than those in the Barossa Valley, and therefore they benefit from cooler temperatures and slower ripening which is ideal for Riesling, Shiraz and the 2012 vintage of the Black Label Cabernet Sauvignon. Firm tannins. - Community Wine Reviews
