Beautifully concentrated with a core of hedonistic black cherry liqueur aromas and flavours running through it. Full-bodied, dry, complex and ultimately satisfying. Gutsy and muscular with a fair kick of dark fruit in its heart. Decant for 1 hour. Produced by Alain Jaume & Fils. Pair this beauty with lamb or steak.

Food pairings: meat dishes.

Reviews and Ratings

Heather Wall - CS; WSET Advanced rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

Lirac sits on the right bank of the Rhone River in the Southern Rhone region of France. Directly across the river is the famous and pricey Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Great quality and value come from AOC Lirac and this wine is one of them. Dark and inky in colour this full-bodied red wine is a blend of mainly Grenache with Syrah and Mourvedre. Lots of red and black berries, black plum, leather, garrigue, black liquorice, and warm baking spices. Tannins are evident but polishing and acidity is balanced. Winemaker suggests this wine will be enjoyed over the next 8 years. Serve with finer cuts of red meat or roasted game.
Tasted: March 2015
This Grand Veneur red wine is produced by Alain Jaume & Fils. This family has been making wine since 1826 in the Rhone Valley. The wines are only lightly filtered to maintain their character and reflection of terroir. The 2011 and 2012 vintages are the same blend and elevage. The 2012 Grand Veneur Lirac Clos de Sixte is a blend of 50% Grenache, 35% Syrah and 15% Mourvèdre grapes. The wine is matured for 16 months in 30% small oak barrels. - Community Wine Reviews
