Montes Alpha Chardonnay 2009, Casablanca Valley, Chile: Vintages Wine Panel: A lovely wine from Chile’s cool, ocean-tempered Casablanca Valley. Straw-coloured with a brassy tint, it opens with vibrant, layered aromas of tangerine, apple, pear, pineapple, guava and floral with a touch of sandalwood. Dry, medium bodied, with a nice interplay of tropical fruit, orchard fruit and subtle oak. Rush of refreshing acidity on the finish. Excellent length. My note: Big honkin’ chardonnay with green apples and toasting smoke. Full-bodied richness. Drink: 2011-2015. 390203 14% XD 750 mL $19.95 Score: 88/100. August 6, 2011 Full Review
