Vieux Chateau D'astros Cuvée Du Commandeur 2009, A.C., Côtes De Provence, Midi, France: Vintages Wine Panel: A blend of Syrah, Grenache, Cabernet Sauvignon and Carignan from the strong 2009 vintage, this wine certainly commands attention. There is nice depth to the nose with ripe black cherry, raspberry, cherry and pomegranate. Dry, it has very good structure. Medium bodied and well made with plenty of ripe fruit here supported wonderfully by soft tannins. Culminates in a fruity and dry finish. My note: Seductive notes of mocha and dark chocolate draw you a little closer to the glass, then you’re flooded with rip blackberries and smoke. Full-bodied with a bit of a grip. Decant 1-2 hours.
