Tawse Winery Inc. Estate Chardonnay 2009, VQA Niagara Peninsula, Ontario, Canada: This is the winery's first time making this particular chardonnay. The fruit was sourced from the estate's Quarry Road, Robyn's Bench, David's Block and Hillside vineyards. It's both organic and biodynamically farmed. This rich layers of toasty oak and vanilla spice come from barrel fermentation followed by 12 months of aging in French oak (20% of which was new). There is terrific minerality and depth in this wine; it's full-bodided but heavy with great complexity and hedonistic satisfaction. Drink: 2011-2015. 670459000847 13% XD 750 mL $34.95 Score: 91/100.
