reviewed this wine as follows:
Cherry red with some garnet hues sneaking in (tasted in April 2013). Enticing raspberry jam and oak on the nose. Four and half years into its life and tannins are still nice and firm. Full-bodied with generous alcohol and rich, fleshy fruit (again, the jam), well integrated oak. Nice long finish. World class. Beautiful now but you could still forget it in your cellar for 3-4 years. Drink with game, lamb, slow cooked red meats (follow me at sommeliertom.com).
Quails' Gate Estate Winery Merlot 2008, VQA, Okanagan Valley, BC, Canada: A serious, deep, rich Merlot with seemingly endless layers of plush black plums and berries. Fine tannins give a superbly smooth mouth-feel. More than 90% of the grapes come from Quails' Gate Boucherie Mountain vineyards. Drink: 2011-2015. 639633 15.47% D 750 mL $24.99 Score: 91/100.
