This full bodied, fruity to integrated wine has notes of raspberry, strawberry, vanilla, cedar and leather. It is aromatic, silky and sweet. It has an aging potential of more than 5 years and due to it being tannic, I think it will be best in 2012-13. The finish is long, once the wine has opened up for more than 30 min. My impression: BEAUTIFUL. A definite necessity for my cellar. Tasted Jan/10.

Cathedral Cellar Kwv Merlot 2006, W.O., Coastal Region, South Africa: My note: KWV’s Cathedral Cellar wines have proven immensely popular, and this 2006 Merlot provides yet another reason why. There are loads of spicy red berry, cherry and vanilla aromas. Dry, fruity, and ably balanced by moderate tannins. Age it 2-4 years, or try it tonight. My note: Cool minty nose rides atop fleshy black plums. The depth of flavour continues on your palate: let it roll!
