Trivento Amado Sur Malbec Bonarda Syrah 2007, Mendoza, Argentina: A powerfully concentrated, rich and supple blend of Malbec (72%), Bonarda (16%) and Syrah (12%). Aromas of blackberries, black plums and mocha. This winery's name is for the three winds that blow through the Mendoza region of Argentina: Polar, Zonda and Sudestada (Southeast). The name of the wine means "beloved on," and refers to the fact that Malbec came from Bordeaux originally but fell in love with Argentina. Malbec, the country's flagship red grape, adds complexity and concentration, while Bonardo brings balancing acidity to the table and Syrah adds fruit freshness. In my Drinks Matcher (www.nataliemaclean.com/matcher), I pair this wine with many savory meat and spicy dishes. A wonderful combination!
