Montes Alpha Cabernet Sauvignon 2006, Colchagua Valley, Chile: Vintages Wine Panel: Here’s an excellent Cab from one of Chile’s most reputable producers. Aged for 12 months in French oak, this well-structured, full-bodied Cab is a fine display of the magic that top Chilean winemakers are able to conjure with this grape. Delicious berry fruit flavors lead to intriguing notes of chocolate, tobacco, vanilla and spice box, and all of these elements are woven beautifully together. Winemaker Aurelio Montes is a hot commodity and this wine shows precisely why. My note: A wonderful Cabernet with classic notes of cassis and blackberry but also an extra oomph: there’s something in this wine that gives incredible depth of flavor and enjoyment.
