Gabriel Israel rated this wine as 91/100 with the following review:

What an outstanding QPR. Decanted for 90 minutes. What a treat! On the nose, leather, tabacco, spices box. On the palate prunes, cherries, mouth coating medium body, round and lingering.
Was perfectly matched with grilled lamb chops.
Dan Trcka Wine Blogger rated this wine as 93/100 with the following review:

This wine, together with Fortius Gran Reserva 1999 (114363) have both won two gold medals at the Challenge International du Vin 2008 in Bordeaux, France and the International Tempranillos al Mundo 2008 competition in Stockholm. Frankly, they come from the same winery and I suspect that they are quite similar – perhaps I should taste them side by side to know for sure. This medium bodied, aromatic wine has light, aged fruit and contains oak, pine and Earth notes. The wine is smooth, silky, with refined tannins and has a long to extra long finish. It is great to drink now and should last for another 5 years at least. It should be open for 30 min to get it to fully express itself. My impression: BEAUTIFUL to DIVINE. Tasted Dec/09.

Natalie's Review

Marqués De Valcarlos Gran Reserva Tempranillo Cabernet Sauvignon 1999, D.O., Navarra, Spain: Vintages Wine Panel: This 10-year-old wine is a blend of mostly Tempranillo with Cabernet Sauvignon in the support position. The wine is at its peak right now and will likely remain there for five more years. Filled with aromas of dried fruit, stewed berries and cedar tones. The flavors echo the aromas. Integrated tannins, a full body and good overall structure make this wine a winner. My note: If you love the mature aromas that Spain can deliver, try this wine: leather, cigar box, dried tobacco leaves, black fruit and smoke. Don’t blame me if you have to run back to the liquor store to buy another case of it after you try one bottle. 687251 14% XD 750 mL  $21.95 Score: 89/100. May 2, 2009  Full Review
