Viña Requingua Puerto Viejo Reserve Merlot 2005, Curicó Valley, Estate Btld., Chile: Vintages Wine Panel: Requingua’s location near the Andes and the Pacific Ocean results in a climate with dramatic differences between day and night temperatures. A south wind, however, keeps summer temperatures from extreme heat. This Merlot combines bright red fruit aromas with notes of spice. It’s full-bodied, with unobtrusive tannins which perfectly balance its full-forward fruit and lead to a charming, strawberry-flavored finish. My note: A simple but ultimately satisfying red with flavors of dark red berries and plums that ripple through it. Smooth and full-bodied. This is a party pleaser to buy by the case. 86579 14% D 750 mL $12.95 Score: 87/100. February 14, 2009 Best Value Red Wine. Full Review
