Natalie's Review

Julian Chivite Gran Feudo Vinas Viejas Reserva Tempranillo Blend 2003, Navarra, Spain: Vintages Wine Panel: Julian Chivite, who died in 1997, came from a Navarra-based winemaking family. His Viñas Viejas, a Tempranillo blend, is made from his 45-65-year-old vines. Chivite was a bit of a traditionalist: “Great wines,” he said, “are made from vineyards that have been properly cultivated, and fine wines from such vineyards have finesse and complexity”. This wine is proof in a bottle of his philosophy. My note: A terrific producer across the board (I especially love his roses), this bottling offers rich, ripe notes of black fruit and vanilla smoke. Full-bodied with good balance. 948067 12.50% D 750 mL  $19.95 Score: 89/100. December 6, 2008  Full Review
