Epitomises the Rhone character, with plenty of roasted and grilled meat notes over a super dry core, indicating a high syrah content, and good concentration with some dried fruit character and chewy dry tannins. i'd bring the fruit out in this wine with a bit of soft cheese, maybe enjoy with good friends over a nice raclette, and discover the blackberries, raisins and figs lurking behind its dark exterior. LCBO notes describe the texture as 'creamy' but i'm pretty sure you'll not get that without a decant.
Santa Duc Les Vieilles Vignes 2009, Côtes Du Rhône A.C., France: Full-throttled, black-brooding red wine with aromas of blackberry pie and black raspberry on the nose and palate. Juicy, fleshy black fruit almost explode on the palate. Dark spices and pepper on the finish. Perfect for meat lovers' pizza. Drink: 2014-2018. 101543 14% XD 750 mL $15.95 Score: 89/100.
