If you are like me and hoping to get a bottle of Sassicaia in my stocking, here is a great alternative from the same historic winery that won't break the bank. It's a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon and Sangiovese. It has a fresh dark plum and black cherry scent followed up with a rich smoky gamey flavour. The tannins are like velour, not too overpowering, and it has a nice spicy finish. Perfect for a pot roast dinner on a cold winter's night in front of a fireplace.
Le Difese Tenuta San Guido 2011, I.G.T., Tuscany, Italy: Complex, full-bodied yet subtle. Gorgeous aromas of dried black cherry, cedar, smoke, fleshy blackberries. This full-bodied red wine is a blend of Merlot, Sangiovese and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes, that was aged for 1 year in French barriques. Decant for 1 hour and you're ready to go! Drink: 2013-2018. 747030 13.50% XD 750 mL $28.90 Score: 90/100. December 7, 2013 Best Beef Wine Full Review
