While I usually plan my menu for get togethers well in advance, sometimes I do a complete menu change on a whim. Such did happen on Saturday morning when I walked by Oyama Sausage at the Granville Island Market in Vancouver. If you can conceive the sausage, pate or cheese, this famous deli has it. So, with my duck, rabbit, truffle pates, several hard and soft cheeses and a bunch of different salami, ham and chorizo sausages, off I went to create my new menu. Of course, when doing this, there is also the small challenge of having to rethink the wine(s) while not breaking the bank. I decided the Michel Torino "Cuma" (meaning pure and clean in the Aymara language) Torrontes, organic and less than $14 was going to be the perfect match for the snack variety I had. This aromatic, but not overly so, grape was a perfect match with its nose of rose, lime, grapefruit, honeysuckle and same on the palate with a slightly floral, long finish. This Argentinian white is elegant, but with the viscosity, weight and acidity to handle richer foods and enough character to handle the spicier fare. Enjoy!
